The Paraje Natural Punta Entinas – Sabinar is a beautiful protected natural area located in Roquetas de Mar, in the province of Almería. This natural space is an area of great ecological value, as it is home to a wide variety of native fauna and flora, many of which are endemic species of the region.
The fauna that inhabits it is rich and diverse. Among the animal species that can be found here are different birds such as the yellow-legged gull, the kentish plover, the grey heron, the stilt and the avocet. You can also find mammals such as badgers, hedgehogs, foxes, martens and rabbits.
The Paraje Natural Punta Entinas – Sabinar is also home to a wide variety of reptiles, including the bastard snake, the ladder snake, the red-tailed lizard and the three-toed skink. There is also a great diversity of invertebrates, such as butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, spiders and ants.
The flora is equally impressive. The area has a wide variety of plant species adapted to the region’s arid climate. Some of the most outstanding plant species include the salsola vermiculata, the cambron, the caper, the asparagus, the mastic tree and the palmetto.
Another of the most outstanding species in the Paraje is the sabina negral, a tree native to the area that can reach up to 8 metres in height. This species is highly appreciated for its resistant wood and its medicinal properties.
In addition to the autochthonous flora and fauna, the Natural Park is also home to a wide variety of migratory species that use the area as a resting and feeding place during their long migratory journeys. Among the migratory species that can be found in the area are the purple heron, cattle egret, spoonbill and flamingo.
The Paraje Natural Punta Entinas – Sabinar is a unique natural area of great ecological value.
